120v vs. 240v Mini Split
The main difference between a mini spit using 120v and 240v is the amperage and efficiency.

120 Volt vs. 240 Volt Mini Split Wiring
Often the reason for installing a 120v unit is the mini split wiring is easier, or 240v is not available at a location.
120v will use more amps to run a mini split and often require a detected 20 amp breaker with no other devices on the same breaker.
Circuit breakers are rated to handle about 80 percent of their overall amperage.
This means that if an existing circuit is going to be used for a mini split any outlets and lights should not be on the same circuit.
If the circuit is overloaded, it will trip the breaker.
Installing a larger breaker without running new wiring is not an option since the wiring is also rated to the breaker that is installed.
